Sashiko Basics

Sashiko means "little jabs" due to the motion made while sewing this simple yet exquisite running stitch. Traditional Sashiko was created with white thread on a dark fabric. Modern Sashiko welcomes colored threads and various colored backgrounds. Once the stitch is mastered, it can be used to create decorative cloths that can be used to make pillows, bags, scarves and more. The art of Sashiko has become popular to include on jackets and when sewing patches on jeans. Invite a friend or make some new ones while relaxing and learning something new. (Wear comfortable clothing. Drinks and snacks are welcome.)
